Café Quest will be replacing the old Cow and Lobster, which Tamba Park entrepreneur Jonathan Ruff opened alongside Michelin-star chef Mark Jordan in October but which closed in early April.
The new restaurant’s concept centres on a ‘build-your-own’ burger menu.
Mr Ruff said: ‘We thought we’d build a menu that works for pretty much everybody. So from price perspective, you can get a burger for as little as £4, or you can go crazy and spend £20 and have loads of toppings. You can make a tower – you could build your own and make it as big as you want.
‘On the table there are games like Connect Four and Rubix cubes, so you can sit there and have a bit of fun – it’s more social’.
Mr Ruff added: ‘People love burgers, that’s for sure. And people love choice.
‘What else do we have around here that lets you build your own meal in Jersey?
‘I think it’s fun – you come here with your kids and you come here as an adult and can make some really weird combinations.’
Mr Ruff opened Tamba Park in 2015, funding his charity, Ruff’s Kitchens, which was set up in Zimbabwe and feeds over 10,000 children per day.
The charity aims to be feeding over 20,000 children each day across 30 schools by the end of this year.
Asked if the new venture would be helping to fund the charity as his other businesses do, he said: ‘None of my businesses can fully fund the charities, so I donate my own money to the charity anyway. Any money my businesses make, some of it always ends up going into the charity. There’s no doubt this (business) will as well’.
He added: ‘I’ve invested a lot of money in this Island. I’ve opened up stuff – I keep reinventing. If something doesn’t work, like the Cow and Lobster, I’m not scared to shut something down and then build something new.
‘You don’t need to have a meal, you can just come in and grab
a coffee. It’s more Tamba. It’s more fun.’
