Ten further senior appointments made within civil service

This brings the number of people recruited to the top jobs in the organisation to 23, following an announcement in June that Mr Parker had cut the number of senior civil servant posts from 66 to 40.

All ten of the latest appointees have been given ‘director level’ jobs and are existing States staff members. They will report to the eight ‘directors generals’ at the very top of the organisation, three of whom have been recruited from the UK.

The restructuring of the top tiers of the civil service has resulted in a reduction of 26 posts.

But when asked how many of these cuts had so far translated to a reduction in head count, a States spokesperson confirmed that all 66 employees were still working for the States.

‘They remain in their current positions until they have secured a new role, whether that is in tier one, two or in a lower tier, or [whether they] leave the organisation,’ she said.

In response to further questions about the timeline for the remaining recruitment at top-tier levels, she added: ‘The vast majority of appointments to the 40 senior roles will be completed by the end of November, although there may be a small number outstanding.’

The ten most recent appointments span several States departments and were confirmed by the Jersey Appointments Commission, the independent body that oversees the recruitment of States employees.
