Islanders spent weeks basking in glorious sunshine as the mercury regularly rose into the high 20s before temperatures dipped and the blue skies were replaced with thick grey cloud and even fog.
However, all that looks set to change this weekend as the sunshine makes a welcome return.
And while it may not quite reach the heights of June and July, it is expected that there will be good reason to get the barbecues out. Temperatures today and tomorrow are expected to reach around 20°C, rising to about 24 or 25°C over the weekend.
That will be welcome news to anyone heading to the Weekender Festival at the Royal Jersey Showground in Trinity, particularly following last year’s rain-soaked event.
Jersey Met Office duty forecaster Adrienne Le Maistre said: ‘I think we are going to see it get a bit better as the week goes on. There will be some cloud around today but by the time we get to Friday there should be more sunshine around.
‘That should last through the weekend, with temperatures creeping up a little bit – possibly getting up to around 24 or 25°C. Obviously it is still a few days away so could change, but that is looking like the most likely scenario.’
She added that the maximum temperatures would depend on the strength and direction of the wind but that she expected it to remain ‘fairly settled’.
This year’s Weekender Festival is due to see headline performances from pop sensation Rita Ora and grime pioneer Dizzee Rascal.
Other acts due to perform across the weekend include iconic disco act Sister Sledge, two-time Brit Award winner Rag’n’Bone Man and Norwegian synth-pop star Sigrid.
Coaches to and from the festival site will be available throughout the weekend, running from the People’s Park from 11.30 am on both days. The last coach to the site runs at 7 pm on Saturday and 6.30 pm on Sunday. Return tickets cost £5 each day.
Meanwhile, Weekender is also encouraging those attending to leave their passports and ID at home and download the Yoti phone app for identification.
The festival is now in its second year after replacing Jersey Live on the Island’s events calendar.
