Firefighters tackle farm blaze in St Mary

The Fire and Rescue Service responded to the 999 call at around 1.30 am. The caller had seen smoke and flames in a field.

As a fire crew was on its way to the reported incident, a second call was received from the occupants of a farm, who had been woken by the noise of a fire which had broken out in a storage shed on their property.

A second fire engine was dispatched from the Western Fire Station, crewed by on-call firefighters.

A Fire Service spokesman said: ‘When the crews arrived, the building was fully involved in fire and a breathing apparatus team immediately got to work with water jets to start extinguishing the flames.

‘Due to the scarceness of water supplies in the area, Jersey Fire and Rescue’s water carrier was called for and crews remained on scene for around two and a half hours extinguishing the fire and damping down.’

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the blaze.
