Firework pushed into letterbox of family home

The States police are now investigating the incident, which happened at around 9 pm on Monday at a property in Clos des Sables in St Brelade. At the time a man, woman and their son were inside the house.

No one was hurt, but there was some damage to the property, including to the door and carpet.

The incident has caused an angry backlash online, with many Islanders now calling for a ban on the sale of fireworks to members of the public.

The case also comes just days after a stray firework is believed to have caused a large fire in a field in Grève de Lecq which at one point threatened to spread to nearby homes.

That firework is thought to have come from the nearby Moulin de Lecq, which had just concluded its professional fireworks display.

And in the early hours of Tuesday there were multiple reports of fireworks being let off and causing a nuisance around Havre des Pas.

Appealing for information about the letterbox incident, the States police said in a statement: ‘The family were home at the time and although no one was injured, this could have ended up very differently.

‘The firework caused some damaged to the door and the carpet. We’d like to speak with anyone who may have seen anything or has any information that can help our enquiries. Please call us on 612612.’
