Teen charged with knife-point robbery referred to Royal Court

The boy – who cannot be named for legal reasons – will have his case dealt with in the Royal Court after the Youth Court panel determined yesterday that the alleged offences were too serious for the lower court.

The 17-year-old allegedly robbed the boys at the junction of Trinity Road and Dongola Road last Thursday.

Appearing for the Crown, police legal adviser Advocate Carla Carvalho gave details of the alleged offences.

Acting for the defendant, duty counsel Mike Preston said he believed the lower court was the best place for the case to be heard.

The Youth Court panel of Magistrate Bridget Shaw, Debbie Prosser and Joanna Moore decided, however, to send the matter to Royal Court.

‘It is too serious for us to deal with,’ Magistrate Shaw told the teenager.

He was remanded to custody and will appear before the Royal Court on 18 December.

The Youth Court were sitting in the Magistrate’s Court.
