Man arrested at home after collision on Victoria Avenue

At 3.24 am on Monday, officers from the States police received a call from a member of the public who had found a damaged blue Renault Clio in the middle of Victoria Avenue – near The Kiosk.

Both the eastbound and westbound carriageway were closed from Bel Royal, as well as Rue du Galet.

Around 40 minutes later, at 4.05 am, officers arrested a man at his home address in St Helier on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and report a collision, suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs and possession of a controlled substance.

A passenger in the vehicle was taken to hospital by paramedics.

Specialist police collision investigators and firefighters also attended the scene and officers remained until 7.40 am ,when the road was reopened.

The incident was the third collision to have taken place on the section of road in the last two months.
