Five rape accused appear in the Magistrate’s Court

The Romanian nationals – who are aged between 18 and 24 – are accused of committing the offences during the early hours of 16 December in Rue des Platons, Trinity.

After a brief hearing before Relief Magistrate Sarah Fitz, the five men had their cases adjourned until 19 February in order for committal papers to be translated into Romanian.

The men were required only to confirm their names and dates of birth, which was done with the assistance of a telephone translation service. Each of the men had legal representation in the court.

Florin Ionut Calin (20) was represented by Advocate Michael Haines, Dorel Stefanita Diaconu (22) by Advocate Luke Sette, Oprea Stefanita Dobre (18) by Advocate Francesca Pinel, Alexandru Dobrin (18) by Advocate Chris Hillier and Marius Adrian Dobrin (24) by Advocate Sarah Dale.

The offences are alleged to have been committed against a single woman, referred to in previous court hearings as Miss X.

All five men have been remanded in custody.
