Man found guilty of breaking into St Peter home

Paul David William Le Geyt (27) committed the offence on the morning of 18 October 2018 at a house near Beaumont.

One witness, who gave evidence in the Royal Court jury trial on Tuesday, said that she saw a man jump over the front wall of the property.

After becoming suspicious, the witness phoned the tenants of the property, informing them that there was strange activity at their home and urging them to return immediately.

The two tenants told the jury that they arrived at the property’s back entrance to find a normally-closed gate open and went to the front of the house.

After looking through glass patio doors, they claim that they saw a man dressed in black walk downstairs to the back door and use a key kept beside it to unlock it. Seeing this, they then both ran back around the back of the property where one tenant gave chase – following the burglar as he crossed Route de la Haule and onto the beach before she managed to confront him. He allegedly told her that he would ‘drop her’ if she did not leave him alone.

He then fled but was spotted by detectives who gave chase and eventually found him hiding in a barn.

Le Geyt, who stole a watch and camera lens, denied being involved but was convicted by a jury on Wednesday.
