Could you live on local produce?

Could you live on local produce?

Running from 19 to 25 August, the challenge aims to help residents make small changes to help them eat more sustainably.

Event organiser Bethan Watkins said: ‘This event is all about forming healthy habits which will stick, which is why you can either swap just one food item to a local alternative, eat one fully local meal each day or eat fully local produce for the entire week.’

She added that ‘the environmental and health benefits’ of eating sustainably ‘should not be ignored’.

Ms Watkins will prepare a map of farm shops on the Island, as well as publishing a list of local food outlets that support the challenge by offering customers a fully local option for the week.

She will also host a community cook-out in partnership with the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society’s Cultivate Programme. The event will showcase seasonally available produce and will be ‘a celebration of local cuisine’.

At the end of the week there will be a day of ‘fun, food, and music’ at Scoop Co-Operative.
