Sister Sledge headline Durrell fundraising ball

The Investec Wilderness Ball took place at the Royal Jersey Showground on Saturday, marking Durrell’s 60th anniversary with a gala evening of entertainment.

With a series of classic hits such as We Are Family, Lost in Music and He’s the Greatest Dancer, Sister Sledge showed their continued ability to wow an audience.

The showground in Trinity was transformed into a wildlife oasis by partners including Delta, Marquee Solutions, AV Design & Weld, Wild Thyme and The Hidden Garden Company.

TV presenter and explorer Monty Halls, who is an ambassador for Durrell, hosted the evening, which was attended by almost 500 people, and highlighted the ways in which environmental damage to the planet could be stopped and remedied.

Antiques expert and BBC presenter David Harper led an auction that formed a key part of the fundraising efforts.

Dr Lesley Dickie, chief executive of Durrell, said: ‘The Wilderness Ball was an incredible event and an opportunity to raise vital funds for our work saving threatened species all over the world. It was also a fantastic celebration of Durrell’s 60th anniversary and highlighted that, given time and support, we can achieve our goals, save species and habitats, inspire generations and reconnect them to the natural world.

‘I would like to thank the companies and individuals that made the event possible, our wonderful guests for attending and celebrating with us, and Investec for their generous support and committed enthusiasm for our cause.’
