Jersey Reds get approval for big screen next to pitch

Sean Dunne, on behalf of JRFC Holdings, had previously applied to install a 4.8-metre-high, 6.7-metre-wide screen at the site, which lies within the green zone.

However, permission to carry out the work was refused after planning officers deemed that it was ‘visually dominant’ and ‘would cause serious harm to the landscape character’.

However, Mr Dunne subsequently put in another application which included a smaller screen – a metre less in width – along with Monterey pine trees, to be used to screen the device.

According to a planning officer’s assessment, attached to the application, it is proposed they are planted and maintained at a height of no less than 4.5m.

It says: ‘The proposed screen would be incidental to the primary use as a Rugby Club and would show the match and adverts on match days only. The screen would also be raised from the existing ground level by 2m.

‘This application addresses the reason for refusal by reducing the size of the screen and its visual dominance in the landscape by planting trees around the perimeter.’
