Bergerac star keen to be reunited with extras

Mr Nettles, who played unorthodox detective Jim Bergerac, is calling for as many Islanders who played a part in the series as possible to share their memories of the BBC detective drama.

The event is being held as Sean Arnold, who played Barney Crozier in the series, is taking part in a book signing for a new novel he has written. The signing is part of the Victorian Christmas event taking place at the museum between noon and 2pm on Saturday.

Mr Nettles is travelling over to support his former colleague and meet extras who appeared in the detective drama.

Detective sergeant Jim Bergerac remains one of Jersey’s most famous exports, running for nine series on the BBC between 1981 and 1991. It centred around the police’s Bureau des Étrangers – a fictional department dealing with non-Jersey residents.

Mr Nettles recalled some of his fond memories from working with the locals and extras, describing his time with them as more of a holiday than work.

He said: ‘It will be great to see some familiar faces, old faces now!

‘They were not professional extras they were locals and it had a really family feel to it. They were bloody good actors, they put us to shame.

‘It was more like a holiday than work on Bergerac and I know they all had a good time so it would be great if as many of them came along as possible.’

Mr Arnold, who is a long time friend of Mr Nettles, will be signing copies of his new book ‘Anton Myst’, which is a story based on the life of a young actor.
