Vote St Brelade Britain’s best beach, public urged

In February, it was announced that the south-coast beauty spot had come third in the TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Awards for 2019. It was beaten by first-placed Bournemouth beach, in Dorset, and Luskentyre Beach, on the Isle of Harris, which came second.

Following that success, Visit Jersey, the industry’s promotional body, launched the campaign to encourage businesses in the bay, Islanders and those visiting to rate the beach on TripAdvisor.

Keith Beecham, chief executive of Visit Jersey, said: ‘Since then, we’ve seen some incredible momentum with lots of positive reviews pouring in from visitors and locals alike. But the race is far from over, we need your help to get Jersey’s favourite beach to number one.’

He explained that the 2019 TripAdvisor rankings generated approximately 150 pieces of positive UK coverage for Jersey. TripAdvisor is the world’s largest travel platform, he added, which is used by 490 million travellers each month.

As of yesterday, 85% of the 2,027 reviews on the website gave the beach a top five-star appraisal, with 125 rating it as very good.

One reviewer from the UK said: ‘Best beach in Jersey and probably in the top ten in the world.

‘Fantastic place for simply chilling, water sports, fishing, rock-pooling or beach fun. Enjoy.’

Another wrote: ‘It was so nice to stroll along this expanse of sand for the first time in 45 years! Nothing much has changed, the tides still coming in to the walls and cleaning the sand daily. The views, whether you look inland or at the landscape along the shore are stunning. Can’t wait to return again soon!’
