Durrell gorilla statue donated back to zoo

Last month more than £1.1 million was raised for Durrell when 44 Go Wild Gorillas statues went under the hammer at The Royal Yacht hotel.

They had been designed by artists and went on display around the Island over the summer as part of the Go Wild Gorillas trail. Now the Gerald Durrell gorilla, designed by Kelly Stanford and inspired by the Zoo’s founder, has been donated back to the charity by the anonymous donor, who bought it for £36,000.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Durrell said: ‘We could not be happier that Gerald will now have pride of place at Jersey Zoo, where he will serve as a reminder of this summer’s colourful trail of gorillas and continue to make people smile for years to come. We are hugely grateful to the donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, for this extremely kind gesture.’
