RNLI gets festive

The crew of the all-weather lifeboat – George Sullivan – were out training on Sunday but took time to have some fun in St Aubin’s Bay before heading further west around the coast.

And cycling group Jersey Breeze got in the act too. The group created a shape of a 20.1km reindeer – complete with antlers and stumpy legs – using tracking app Strava during a cycle around St Saviour, Grouville and St Martin.

Most commercial and search and rescue vessels are fitted with automatic identification systems [AIS] that track their movement.

In a post on Facebook, the charity said: ‘St Helier ALB crew out this morning. Practicing a new kind of search pattern, we call this one the eXtreme Maritime Area Search (XMAS)! Good job guys and Merry Christmas everyone!’

The volunteers would have been met with some blustery conditions and the odd hail storm as the wet and windy weather continued. However the forecast is looking a little more settled for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. See the forecast here
