Parishioners questioned over housing needs

Constable Richard Buchanan has sent a letter urging parishioners to fill in the three surveys, which are designed to better understand the needs of housing for older people, first-time buyers and the provision of social-rented housing.

The surveys will be used to support potential requests for land to be rezoned for development within the parish as part of the next Island Plan, a document that sets planning policy for Jersey.

In the letter the Constable states: ‘You can find more about the Island Plan review process on the States of Jersey website in the link copied at the end of this letter.

‘The Island Plan review is critically important, as it will allow a plan to be developed to meet housing needs across the Island.

‘Recent assessments confirm, as we expect, that there is a serious shortage of different types of housing in the Island and the current stock is highly priced as a result.

‘The information collected from these surveys will be used to support a potential request for land to be rezoned for housing in the parish.

‘Any such request will be subject to a full consultation process with parishioners and, of course, approval from a Parish Assembly. The current process is simply the groundwork required to work up meaningful proposals.’

Parishioners who want to complete the surveys can do so by getting a printed copy from the St Ouen Parish Hall office, or by downloading a copy at parish.gov.je/StOuen.
