Hacker’s historic Hampshire county crown

The 21-year-old sunk a 25-foot putt on the 18th hole at North Hants Golf Club to beat Toby Burden – and card three consecutive birdies on the final three greens. He joins an illustrious group of Islanders on the county honours board.

Not since Christy McLaughlin’s success in 2000 has the Hampshire crown been brought back to Jersey, with just six Island golfers claiming the title since Captain P Balfour in 1904.

Hacker, who studies and plays in Jacksonville, Florida, said: ‘It’s really satisfying winning on the 18th.

‘The County Championships are something special and only a handful of Channel Islands’ players have ever won it. It does make it feel better getting the win and being able to take the title back to Jersey.’
