Jonathan Renouf (32903650)

AN environmental campaigner and former TV producer has announced plans to seek election to the States.

Jonathan Renouf will stand as an independent candidate for Deputy in his home parish of St Brelade when the Island goes to the polls on 22 June.

The former pupil of La Moye, Les Quennevais and Hautlieu schools spent 30 years as a London-based producer for the BBC before returning to Jersey with his family in 2019.

Mr Renouf said he would be standing on ‘a strong environmental platform’ and was committed to open government, basing his campaign on three key themes under the heading ‘People, Place, Prosperity’.

He added: ‘There are challenges that need to be addressed to ensure Jersey works for everyone.

‘While not everyone will agree with all my views, I hope that they will recognise my commitment to sustainability, transparency and fairness, and my promise to bring those values to the States Assembly if elected.’

Having completed an undergraduate degree and PhD at Durham University, Mr Renouf joined the BBC, where his work included Newsnight with Jeremy Paxman, Wonders of the Universe with Brian Cox and Climate Change – The Facts with David Attenborough.

During his time working in England, Mr Renouf kept up his connections with Jersey, sitting on the Electoral Commission in 2012 and writing a regular column in the JEP.

Since returning to the Island Mr Renouf has campaigned for the new skatepark at Les Quennevais and been involved in the climate-change group in St Brelade.

He is a member of the council of the National Trust for Jersey.

Mr Renouf is the second candidate with an environmental background to confirm their candidacy in St Brelade, which will elect four Deputies in June.

Reform Jersey announced earlier this month that Nigel Jones would be standing as one of its candidates.
