ORGANISERS of tomorrow’s Accuro Jersey Triathlon have adjusted the schedule for the event as a result of predicted high temperatures.

With a maximum of 34°C forecast for the afternoon, the three junior races have been moved forward and will now start from West Park in St Helier between 7.15am and 7.35am.

Around 350 adult competitors are registered to take part in three distance events starting between 8.45am and 9.25am.

The event will follow British Triathlon Foundation guidelines for racing in the heat, with water stations along the course, and buckets and sponges set out at the finish.

Event director Andrew Thomas said: ‘Our focus is on the run; that’s where we see the risk, so we have arranged more iced water and we’re looking, in conjunction with Ambulance and Fire and Rescue, to have a water spray as well, which is highly likely.

‘There will also be a communications piece to make sure people are prepared.’

Islanders are asked to be mindful of competitors on the bike course, which runs along the seafront from St Helier to St Aubin and then to La Pulente and the north-west of the Island before returning to St Helier via Bel Royal.

Victoria Avenue will be closed to west-bound traffic soon after sunrise, reopening during the afternoon when the event has finished.
