Who or what have created the weirdly shaped bushes on Jersey's north coast?

ANYONE visiting the north coast between Mourier Valley and Sorel could be forgiven for thinking that a keen topiarist has been at work.

Numerous gorse bushes appear to have been shaped into a variety of guises from wigwams to rabbits and the creators are none other than the sheep that roam the area.

Being hardier than most, Manx Loaghtan sheep like nothing better than to nibble on the base of the gorse , leaving tufts at the top that they are unable to reach.

This helps the ecology of the area as the tighter bushes that remain provide better nesting habitats.
