JERSEY’S international film festival is inviting Islanders of all abilities to take their shot and become part of a free filmmaking course.

The 13th Parish Festival’s week-long Kino Jersey project will take place from 13 to 17 May, with budding directors getting the chance to shoot their film from concept to the Arts Centre’s big screen where they will be shown alongside features straight from Sundance and Venice film festivals.

Anyone over 16, from seasoned filmmakers to complete beginners, can take part.

This is the second year that the 13th Parish Festival will partner with French film festival Off-Courts Trouville on the project, and participants will be able to benefit from advice and support from international filmmaking experts throughout the week.

Tony Langlois, the director of the Island festival, said: ‘We are putting this out to as many people as possible, because we want to champion local talent and show that Jersey and the Channel Islands are full of creativity.

‘Jersey is a wonderful place to make films and we are passionate about highlighting that and attracting more people to the Island for film projects.

‘Whether you’re a media student with a budding idea or an experienced artist looking for more connections, taking part in Kino Jersey is a unique and wonderful opportunity.’

He added: ‘We also hope the community gets behind our local talent and comes to see all their films at the Arts Centre during the festival. It’ll be quite the event.’

The Kino Jersey project will take place a week before the festival, which runs from 18–21 May at the Jersey Arts Centre.

Organisers say the third instalment of the Island’s celebration of independent global and local cinema is returning ‘bigger and better than ever’ and will offer Islanders an exciting array of contemporary short films, award-winning cinematic features and documentaries, a new virtual reality event, family-friendly screenings and a public interview with a distinguished film industry creator.
