A MAN who crashed his car in Colomberie while under the influence of alcohol – injuring multiple pedestrians – has been jailed for two and a half years.

James Arnold (25) appeared before the Royal Court this morning to be sentenced for the incident, which left three people – including a 71-year-old woman – needing hospital treatment after they were struck in the evening of Sunday 19 February.

He was also banned from driving for three years and will have to retake his test.

Deputy Bailiff Robert MacRae, presiding, said Arnold would receive “full credit” for his early guilty pleas, but reiterated the seriousness of the crash and the fact that he resisted arrest.

Arnold was double the legal alcohol limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres when he mounted the pavement in Colomberie and crashed, leaving a 71-year-old woman and two men (aged 28 and 35) needing hospital treatment for their injuries, which included broken bones.

More to follow – including an interview with one of the victims – in the JEP…
