JULIE Maindonald, one of the Island’s Group Scout Leaders, has died following a long battle with cancer, it has been announced.

She joined the organisation in 1994 as a Beaver Scout Leader and later became Assistant Cub Scout Leader at the 2nd Jersey Scout Group, which covers the south-east of the Island, and then Group Secretary at the 3rd Jersey Scout Group, which covers the eastern parishes.

She later became Group Secretary at the 2nd Jersey Scout Group, before going on to serve as its Group Scout Leader in March 2017.

In an email to members, Island Lead Volunteer Glen Militis said: ‘Right up to the time of her passing, she was an active leader across all sections within the group.

‘Her dedication to ensuring that as many young people had every opportunity to be part of Scouting was phenomenal.

‘This was recognised with Julie receiving her Award of Merit, Medal for Meritorious Conduct and an Island Commissioner’s Award.

‘Julie gave a huge amount of her time, energy and enthusiasm to Scouting and grew the 2nd Scout Group so that more young people could enjoy and experience the benefits of Scouts.

‘Her contribution will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with her husband Tony and daughter Kirsty at this difficult time, along with her close and Scouting family at the 2nd Jersey.’
