A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was stabbed multiple times in a shop on the Waterfront on Saturday afternoon.
The 34-year-old, believed to be a member of staff, was treated by paramedics following the incident at Morrisons Castle Quay at 1.30pm, before being taken to hospital.
In an update issued on Sunday morning, the States police said that a 55-year-old man, who the force say was known to the victim, is still in custody after being arrested on Saturday afternoon.
The woman is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
Armed police swarmed the area after a man was reportedly seen fleeing the scene after the stabbing. The shop, as well as the walkway between the store and Cooper’s coffee shop, was cordoned off.
Forensics officers were seen entering the shop on Saturday afternoon.
At least five police cars and vans were seen in the area shortly after the incident.
Issuing an update, the States police said: “Police are still appealing for witnesses to come forward following a stabbing that took place yesterday at Morrisons, Castle Quay in St Helier.
“The 34-year-old female victim remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
“The 55-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder yesterday afternoon, remains in police custody whilst the investigation continues.
