A WIND warning has been issued for Jersey – with the risk of gales and 50mph gusts.

The orange alert – the second-highest warning level – says the strong winds will affect the Channel Islands throughout Monday afternoon and night.

Jersey Met is also forecasting heavy rain.

The unsettled conditions follows an extremely wet November which saw the Howard Davis Farm weather station record more rain than any other Jersey station has recorded in any month since records began.

Jersey Met figures also revealed that this autumn, covering the period from 1 September to 30 November, was the mildest on record, with an average temperature of 15.4°C – 1.9°C above the seasonal norm.

It was the ninth wettest at Maison St Louis, with 401.4mm, but the wettest ever at Howard Davis Farm.

The soggiest autumn on record was in 1929, when 476mm of rain was recorded during the three-month period.
