Girl who sent abusive messages to teen on Christmas Day is sentenced

A 14-YEAR-OLD girl who sent abusive and offensive messages to another teenager on Christmas Day and again just over a week later has been bound over for three months.

The Youth Court heard that the 14-year-old girl, who cannot be named on account of her age, had endured bullying and cruel comments from other pupils at her school, including from the person to whom she had sent the abusive messages, and had also suffered some mental-health problems.

Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke decided that a binding-over order was a more appropriate sentence under the circumstances than a restraining order.
