GRANDS Vaux School pupils have excelled in two different competitions that showcased their talents in French speaking and short-story writing.
As part of the school’s World Book Day celebrations the children were encouraged to write a short story for the Planet Prose Short Story Competition.
After the judges received some exceptional entries, the top budding author was Year 4 student Gabriela Kochan (8), who won the 6 to ten age category. There was a celebration event at the Library recently where the winners were announced.
Grands Vaux head teacher Maria McCool said: “We are immensely proud of all the children who entered and shared their creative flare, but a particular well done must be shared with Gabby – a great success.”
Congratulations also went to a number of pupils who took part in the French Eisteddfod, with the most impressive achievement gained by Jose Esteves (9), who won a platinum award and was the overall winner in his age category and took home the J&E Carnegie Trophy.
Grands Vaux was represented by eight students in the Year-5-and-under set verse section.
“They worked exceptionally hard to perfect their performances and were a credit to the school. They won two silver, five gold and even one platinum award. Well done to all involved; we are very proud of all your efforts,” Miss McCool said.
