Three-year ban for Jersey drink-driver

A 27-YEAR-OLD caught driving his Land Rover when he was almost twice the legal alcohol limit in the early hours of the morning has been banned from the roads for three years and fined £2,500.

Harvey John Dellarcrone had two glasses of wine and four beers before getting behind the wheel of his blue Discovery on Sunday 21 April.

St Helier Centenier Paul Huelin, prosecuting, told the Magistrate’s Court that a States police patrol noticed Dellarcrone driving at speed and swerving over central white lines as he travelled through town at 2.45am.

The police pulled him over just outside Haute Vallée School, in Grande Route de Mont à L’Abbé, and after smelling alcohol on his breath, arrested him on suspicion of drinking and driving.

A breath test at police headquarters gave a reading of 67 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – almost twice the legal maximum of 35 micrograms.

The court heard that Dellarcrone had a previous conviction for drink-driving from eight years ago.

Advocate David Steenson, defending, said Dellarcrone had been drinking at a friend’s 30th birthday party when he made the “poor decision” to drive home.

He added that his client had been co-operative with the police and had pleaded guilty at his first appearance.

As well as the driving ban and the fine, Relief Magistrate Peter Harris ordered him to retake and pass the driving test after the three years of disqualification.
