JERSEY students receiving their GCSE results today have outperformed their English counterparts by large margins.

Those who took GCSEs, or the international equivalent, this summer achieved passes at grades 4-9 in 77.5% of their subjects, compared with 67.4% in England, statistics released by the Education Department have confirmed.

Young Islanders also scored well at the upper end of the results scale, with 27.6% of exams passed at grades 7, 8 or 9, the equivalent of A or A* grades under the previous marking system. The comparative English figure was 21.7%.

Students making up the class of 2024 have been congratulated by Education Minister Rob Ward, who said: “Every one of you should be proud of your own individual journey and your personal achievements.

“Whether your next steps involve continuing in education, starting an apprenticeship, or embarking on a new career, the skills and knowledge you have gained will serve as a solid foundation for your future.

“I would also like to thank the parents, guardians, teachers, and school staff who have provided unwavering support and guidance – their dedication has been instrumental in helping our students succeed.”
