A RESEARCH project into Portuguese life in Jersey is under way.
And some of the researchers will be on hand to discuss it at the Portuguese Food Festival in the People’s Park today.
The Jersey Community Relations Trust (JCRT) is launching Project Luso, to study and explore and Portuguese daily life and culture in the Island.
The project will also celebrate the positive impact that Jersey’s Portuguese community has had on Jersey. Project Luso also aims to understand the challenges they face here. It is being led by Selina Zenonos, the vice-chair of JCRT, who said the research would “explore and uplift the experiences of migrants on our Island”.
She added: “Through this research, we aim not only to honour the invaluable contributions these communities have made to Jersey but also to enhance the quality of life and opportunities available to them.
“This project marks the beginning of a journey to deepen our understanding of and support for all migrant communities in Jersey.”
The Portuguese Food Festival runs until Monday, with the Project Luso Team due to be there today at the Jersey Youth Service marquee.
Islanders with a Portuguese background will also be invited to take part in research and answer a short survey.
Ms Zenonos said: “We are excited to be part of this annual cultural celebration, and hope to speak to as many people as we can to help document Portuguese life in Jersey.”
