A FESTIVAL taking place this weekend – featuring traditional African food, dance, music and a raffle – is raising money to support schoolchildren in Ghana.
The Out of Africa event is due to be held in the upstairs clubhouse in the St Clement’s Partners Restaurant on Saturday in aid of Yen Mmofra Yen Man Foundation, an organisation based in Accra which aims to ensure that children can access education and the support necessary for their growth and development.
Ben Boakye, the founder of Big Ben’s Fit Club in St Clement and chairman of Yen Mmofra, is helping to organise the event.
He said the funds would go towards school uniforms, shoes, bags and other school supplies that underprivileged youngsters need for their learning, and which parents can rarely afford.
He added that Yen Mmofra also helped some older students to go to university.
The event is due to have music from local group The Balafonics and DJ Pete Bongo Beat.
There will also be authentic African cuisine, a bar and a raffle with prizes including a Family Day at the Merton, meal vouchers and an afternoon tea at Greenhills.
Tickets can be purchased for £25 by emailing bigbenje@hotmail.co.uk
