Sport: Commonwealth protest success for Jersey

Paul du Feu, president of the Island’s Commonwealth Games Association, challenged the Commonwealth Games Federation at their general assembly in Canada following a decision to alter criteria for athletics events.

Du Feu labelled the changes ‘discriminatory’ and ‘immoral’ after admitting that Jersey’s athletes no longer ‘had a hope’, and Games officials have now reverted back to the original, less demanding standards.

The CGAJ chief also revealed ‘good news’ for Jersey’s beach volleyball hopefuls Bero Bobuš and Ruben Vieira, who can now apply to fill one of two spots allocated to smaller nations.
