Athletics: Duquemin recalled by Team GB

The Jerseyman, now focusing solely on discus after previous success in the shot putt, missed out on selection for the Olympic Games and European Championships in 2016, but put himself in pole position for the European Throwing Cup in Gran Canaria with victory at Sunday’s trials in Loughborough.

Duquemin, who threw 60.02 metres to clinch his latest win, was last handed a full national vest at the European Team Championships in June 2015.

‘It’s only February so my training is not geared towards throwing far at the moment, but I had to show form on Sunday. I knew that any distance starting with a six would be enough, and I hit it on the money.’

The 2014 Commonwealth Games finalist is aiming to surpass 65m in the coming months as he bids for selection for 2017 World Championships in London.
