Tigers come calling for Voss

The 24-year-old JRFC academy product has upped sticks to join the Premiership giants this week after being offered his second contract with a top-flight club. He could feature in the coming weeks following the recent departure of Tigers second-row Dom Barrow.

Voss, who played for Hartpury College from 2014-16 through a scholarship with Gloucester Rugby, returned to St Peter last season and made his 50th appearance for the club 12 months ago.

The news will come as a blow to head coach Harvey Biljon as he attempts to emulate the league and cup achievements of 2016/17, but provides the likes of Dave McKern, Uili Kolo’ofa’i and Tom Quarrie an opportunity to gain match minutes alongside Jerry Sexton.

Details of Voss’s deal have not been made public, but a permanent move would push him back alongside former Red Guy Thompson, who will shift from Wasps to Welford Road this summer.

Tigers coach Matt O’Connor said on the club website this morning: ‘James is an ambitious young player who wants to challenge himself. We’re looking forward to working with him here.’
