First Sark-Jersey Challenge proves a hit

Experienced long-distance swimmers were joined by open-water novices for the 14-mile crossing from Sark’s east coast to Greve de Lecq on Saturday, with 11 relay teams and one solo swimmer battling against strong tidal streams in a test of stamina and strength to raise money for Jersey Alzheimer’s Association.

The Keg Society, featuring James Salkeld, Alice Harvey, Nicky Horsfall, Brad Rose, Max Treharne and Henry Job – and skippered by Mary Perkins – were the first team to reach Ceasarean shores, clocking 5hr 32min to beat runners-up Beached Whales – featuring former Commonwealth Games swimmer Dan Halksworth and Island Games triathlete James Allen, alongide Ross Allan, Josh Chamier, Harry Trower and Henry Fros – by just 13 minutes.

Greg Woods completed the route on his own, in 7hr 6min.

The event was backed by TEAM and Dickinson Gleeson, in addition to the Jersey Lifeboat Association. Donations can be made via https://my.race-nation.co.uk/sponsorship/race/1382.
