Burns picked for GB juniors

Thomas Burns

A JERSEY shooter has been selected to represent Team GB in the upcoming ISSF Junior World Championships later this year.

Thomas Burns, who last year won the British Junior Trap Shooting title, will be part of the British quartet competing in the Men’s Trap in Changwon in South Korea. He will also compete in the team event alongside Tom Betts and William Gilbert.

The Junior World Championships are due to take place between 14 and 25 July.

Before heading to South Korea though, Burns will also be competing under the Team GB flag in Italy at the ISSF International Grand Prix for Junior.

Burns, who recently signed a new four-year contract with Zoli Guns, said: ‘I’m so, so chuffed to be finally confirmed on the list for South Korea – it’s special.

‘But to also be selected for the Italian ISSF Junior Grand Prix puts a bit of icing on the cake.’

The promising shooter, who has hopes of one day making an Olympic squad, has been excelling on the ISSF Grand Prix in recent months, winning silver in Spain in January, before following that up with gold in Portugal in February. Burns also took home another silver in April in France.

Between his next two Team GB commitments though, he will be wearing the Jersey colours in the NatWest Island Games in Guernsey.
