Poppy’s day at the PDC

Beaulieu student Poppy Benest of Grouville Women, with the Player Development Centre Sid Guy Award

POPPY BENEST was rewarded for her efforts on and off the football field at Springfield last week, after being named the Jersey FA’s Player Development Centre Sid Guy Award winner for 2022.

The 16-year-old has enjoyed a standout season with Grouville Women, with her club performances earning her a chance to train alongside the Island’s senior side ahead of the Women’s Muratti.

‘This award continues to be a difficult award to hand out each season as we feel many of the girls are deserving of it,’ said PDC manager Daniel Seviour.

‘Poppy’s attitude to training and development as a player, as well as the relationships built with other players and coaches, has always been positive. We as coaches feel Poppy shows all attributes that are required to receive this award.’

Benest has been a ‘five-year advocate’ for the PDC and her coaches believe she can make it further through the academy.

‘She is always looking at ways to develop her game and has become a real leader within the group over the years,’ Seviour added. ‘We believe that Poppy will continue to develop and become a key part of women’s football in Jersey going forward.’
