ASSISTANT MANAGER Kevan Nelson admitted it was a ‘weird’ game with neither side getting going, but felt Jersey Bulls deserved their 2-0 win over Colliers Wood United.
Top scorer Lorne Bickley scored twice at Springfield, exemplifying his importance to the team after serving a three-match suspension.
The visitors offered little in return and Bulls could enjoy a win without getting out of first gear.
‘It never really got going but we got going enough to win the game. We were definitely the better side and we had control of it but Colliers Wood never really threw much at us,’ said Nelson.
‘It was nice to have one of those days, to have a relatively easy day at the office. We’ve had some not so easy days over the last six or seven weeks. We deserved it in the end.’
Bickley’s goals, and his presence, have been vital to Bulls’ promotion push and he took both of them well.
‘Lorne’s a great player for us and he’s also a really nice guy. He’s been the focal point of what we’ve been trying to do and how we play.
‘It was unfortunate to lose him for three games but that has probably stoked his fire a bit more.
‘He won’t mind me saying that before he got suspended he was probably off the boil a little bit and the break has done him good but it is nice to see him scoring goals. I’m pleased to see him back and I’m pleased to see him back in the changing rooms because he’s a nice guy to have around.’
