HAMPSHIRE Seniors showed their class with a resounding 4.5 – 0.5 victory in the final day fourballs against Jersey Seniors, after trailing from the opening session.

The Caesareans put themselves in a great position after the first day at Royal Jersey GC.

Wins in the opening three matches by the pairs of Trevor Gray/Mick Le Feuvre (1up), Bob Wickings/Tim Morton (2&1) and Paul Horgan/Steven Bowen (2&1) put early daylight between the hosts and Hampshire.

However, the mainlanders battled back in the final two matches to trail 3–2 heading into yesterday’s action at La Moye GC.

Hampshire would take the momentum and run with it.

Gray/Le Feuvre fell in the opening match 3&1 before the home course duo of Wickings/Morton were defeated 2&1.

Hampshire would not look back after taking their first overall lead, as both Horgan/Bowen and George Kean/Mark Hesford were also beaten to seal Jersey’s fate.

Against a strong county outfit, it was a stellar effort from the hosts, who restored some pride in the final match, as Wayne Stephens and Bob O’Brien halved their individual contest, with Hampshire the overall winners 6.5 – 3.5.
