FORMER Jersey Reds rugby player Nick Campbell will leave ‘no stone unturned’ while he prepares to fight in the first Scottish heavyweight title bout since 1951.

The 32-year-old will meet Jay McFarlane live on Sky Sports on 26 February for a belt which has been vacant since Glaswegians George Stern and Hugh McDonald met 71 years ago.

In 2022, a new pair of Glasgow natives shall fill the shoes of their predecessors in a mouthwatering night of boxing at the OVO Hydro arena, headlined by undisputed super-lightweight champion Josh Taylor’s defence against Jack Catterall.

Campbell said: ‘I don’t believe it has the potential to overshadow the main event, but for the Glasgow community it is massive,

‘I am fully aware of what Jay can bring to the table, but I am focused on myself and the things I can control.

‘The support I have received from the Jersey community has been incredible. I may be a born-and-bred Glasgow boy, but Jersey is my home. I am so grateful to everyone for accepting me as one of their own.’
