Sorel season jumps in with new track layout

THE picturesque venue of Sorel Point played host to the first race of the motocross season.

Battles between all classes and ages ensued, with competitors excited to navigate new obstacles on the track’s new layout.

A multitude of spectators lined the pits in glorious sunshine to watch the eagerly anticipated season get underway.

In the Elite A class there was a tussle at the top between Connor Gautron (194), Matt Le Brun (64) and Charlie Morris (12).

Archie Langlois (10) and Stevie Leonard (24) also enjoyed a head-to-head fight, which kept everyone on their toes.

Ross Pinel (18) returned for his first motocross race in 13 years and enjoyed a personal battle with Rhys Le Roy (169).

An enthralling contest concluded with Gautron the standout performer, winning all three of his races.

The intermediate B group had a full gate with riders of all different ages including Ashton Hardman (184) winning his first race of the day, all whilemaking his debut in the adult class after moving up from the 85s.

Throughout the day the B group had battles between Leo Gomes (171), Stephen Goguelin (21), Silvio Thomas (178) and Ashton Hardin (184) where Goguelin came out on top in race two and Gomes won race three.

The Novice C group saw a toe-to-toe fight for the lead between Stephen Dowden (164), Enio Brazao (313) and Michael Ferens (76) while Talluah Brewer-Morris (11) and Jimmy Paton (31) had a battle of their own.

The final result of the day were Dowden would claim the opening race, while Ferens won races two and three.

The two boys in the 85 class, Max Paton (210) and Cameron Brazao (313), fought hard for first and rode incredibly well but overall Max took all three victories.

The 65 and auto class saw an intriguing contest between brothers Jake (20) and Joel (26) Leonard battling it out for the win, alongside Leon Dowden (165) Archie Gomes (71) and Cory Little (55) but overall Joel Leonard came out on top with all three wins.

The E4 class also featured an up-and-coming young duo in the shape of Robbie Holland (190) and Lewis Falle (65) who rode their heart out all day.

Elsewhere, the Vets class was comprised of Mark Birrell (32), Lee Le Feuvre (91) and Simon Bradbury (30), who had battles of their own throughout.

Action returns to Sorel Point next weekend and spectators are encouraged to come and watch the adrenaline-filled sport first hand, with some of Jersey’s most talented sportsmen and women on two wheels.
