Riders put to the test by Sorel winds

SPECTATORS flooded to Sorel Point as the coastal venue played host to the second motocross race of the season.

Riders of all ages and abilities took to the track to battle in blustery winds and, despite the challenging conditions, Jersey’s best provided the keen onlookers with ample opportunity to cheer.

The Elite A class saw battles between Matt Le Brun (64), Connor Gautron (194), Charlie Morris (12), Finlay Clark (385) and Sam Touzel (28). Le Brun flew through the track and came away with two wins, while Gautron secured one win and a second spot.

Clark, recently back from an ankle injury, managed to come away with two thirds and a second.

Spectators were also treated to the duo of Archie Langlois (10) and Kerry Knowles (172) enjoying a head-to-head battle throughout the course of the day.

The Intermediate B group saw strong fights between Leo Gomes (171), Stephen Goguelin (21), Gary Munro (139) and Ashton Hardman (184), as Gomes came away with three wins. Goguelin sealed a sole second, along with Munro, while Hardman earned a third and a second.

Tom Lister (49) continues to impress in the early season and came home with a third, while Danilo Da Silva (36) has returned after a long break of the bike and is improving very quickly.

Throughout the day the Novice C class saw competition for the top between Enio Brazao (313), Stephen Dowden (164) and Michael Ferens (76) as well as tussles in the middle of the pack between Jimmy Paton (31), Zofia Szywala (18), Talluah Brewer (11) and Ian Carpenter (45).

Two wins went to Brazao, a trio of second places to Dowden and one win and two thirds to Ferens.

The class also welcomed a pair of new riders in the shape of Milton Da Silva (224) and Paulo Da Silva (470).

Elsewhere, the exciting 65/Autos Class was comprised of the riders of tomorrow, littered with children whose ability and drive for the sport continues to grow.

Jake Leonard (20) and Archie Gomes (71) battled it out for the top as well as Cory Little (55) and Edward Mesch (99) the autos class. Leonard laid claim to a pair of wins, while Gomes took the other.

The 65s saw Joel Leonard (26) and Leon Dowden (165) fight for the top with Joel Leonard leaving with two wins and Dowden with one.

Lenni-Mai Pallot (22) was flying around the track and enjoying her own battles with newcomer Charlie Bellchamber (102).

The 85 Class again saw action-packed racing with Max Paton (210) winning all three of his races in the big wheel class, while elsewhere, Cameron Brazao (313) and Jerome Sullivan (8) duelled for the top position with the former picking up two wins and Sullivan the other.

Robbie Holland (17) dominated the upcoming E4 Class with three wins, while Lee Le Feuvre also won all of his races in the Vets Class.

Next up at Sorel is the esteemed ‘Two-Day’ on 4/5 May, which will see several riders flock to Jersey from overseas to join the local hopefuls.
