THE official opening of Jersey’s new-and-improved £425,000 padel facility is set to take place tomorrow – offering Islanders the chance to give the sport a try.

State-of-the-art upgrades at St Clements Recreation Grounds, including three new indoor courts and outdoor floodlights, will be open to the public from 3-5pm as part of the Island Padel Fest, before former world junior number one Mauri Andrini leads a coaching clinic. An exhibition match will also be played, featuring four Spanish padel professionals.

Island Padel, which has recently staged the largest padel league in the country, has secured the hosting rights for the Lawn Tennis Association’s largest padel tournament of the season, which will be held in September.

The development at the St Clement site was made possible following a grant through the Government of Jersey’s fiscal stimulus fund in 2021, which initially set aside over £7million for the benefit of Island sport.
