JERSEY REDS have signed Cardiff Blues forward Alun Lawrence on loan until the end of the season.

Lawrence, a former Wales age-group international who has 23 Blues senior appearances to his name, brings proven pedigree to St Peter, having captained Coleg Y Cymoedd to success in the British Colleges Cup, beating rugby powerhouses Millfield and Hartpury en route to success. He is a versatile player who can play anywhere across the back-row, adding valuable depth to the Championship high-fliers.

Reds director of rugby Harvey Biljon said: ‘Alun has been unlucky not to play more regularly for Cardiff as a result of the competition for back-row places there, which includes several internationals. This is a good opportunity for him to get game time and to stand out in what is also a competitive area for us.’

Lawrence will be in contention for this Saturday’s Championship game at Ampthill, where the Reds will aim to bounce back from the home defeat to the Doncaster Knights on Saturday.
