JERSEY REDS vice-captain Macauley Cook put in a try-scoring, man of the match performance as the Championship side left it late to win a nail-biter against Bedford Blues.

Two tries from fullback Brendan Owen and one from hooker Eoghan Clarke saw the Islanders take the lead several times at Goldington Road, only to be pegged back by the hosts.

The home side took an early lead through loosehead prop Joey Conway, and stayed doggedly in the battle with scores by No.8 Tui Uru and winger Dean Adamson, despite two yellow cards.

Cook’s try in the 78th minute also secured the bonus point to keep Harvey Biljon’s Reds’ just a point below Ealing Trailfinders in the league, ahead of a top-of-the-table clash at Stade Santander next Saturday.
