Suspended Bastareaud vows to play a part in Six Nations preparations

France international centre Mathieu Bastareaud is vowing to play a part in the build-up to the NatWest 6 Nations opener against Wales.

The 29-year-old is suspended for the February 3 clash in Paris after he received a three-week ban for verbally abusing an opponent.

However, the 42-times capped player tweeted on Thursday: “Thank you all for your many messages of support! Now, I will continue to work hard and accompany friends this wk in Wales for the big match of #ChampionsCup. Good luck also at #XVdeFrance for his first match against Ireland # 6Nations.”

Bastareaud was cited following the European Champions Cup clash against Italian side Benetton last Sunday, when he appeared to direct homophobic abuse at the Italian team’s forward Sebastian Negri.

The Toulon player pleaded guilty to the offence and must also sit out his club side’s win-or-bust Champions Cup against the Scarlets on Saturday.
