David Wagner insists he is paying little attention to Huddersfield’s poor Premier League statistics as they bid for their first win of the season.
Huddersfield, second from bottom in the table after conceding nine goals and scoring just one in their opening three matches, head to Everton on Saturday.
Wagner’s side have kept just four clean sheets in their last 20 Premier League games, scoring in only seven of them, but the Town boss is adamant the stats do not tell the full story.
“First of all, the stats are right, ok. The stats are the truth,” he said. “But will they always give you the true information about success or no success? No.
“Stats don’t guarantee that you will know who will be successful and you won’t, especially in the next game.
“The most important thing for me is that we stick to what we have done before.”
Town registered their first point of the campaign last week in a goalless home draw against Cardiff, but were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night after a 2-0 defeat at Stoke.
“If you ask me am I happy about this? No. But does it mean we have to change anything or start to overthink or panic? No, absolutely not,” Wagner said.
Town made a flying start last season after reaching the top flight for the first time in 45 years, with back-to-back wins in their opening two matches.
But Wagner said he nor his players are feeling any extra pressure after heavy defeats to Chelsea and Manchester City in their first two this time around.
“It means nothing in terms of how we will finish the season,” he said. “It’s all about how you focus on your work and on the next game.
“This is one of our strengths that we never – not me, not the dressing room, not the board, not the supporters – get driven away by negativity or positives.
“The quality of this club is it is able to focus on the next game.”
Wagner will be without suspended midfielder Jonathan Hogg, who sits out the second game of his three-match ban following his straight red card against Cardiff.
Jonas Lossl will continue in goal after Ben Hamer was forced off last weekend with a knee injury and winger Ramadan Sobhi is also unavailable due to a similar problem.
Wagner said he would decide on Friday whether to include Erik Durm in his squad again after the 2014 World Cup winner made his first appearance in 17 months at Stoke having recovered from long-term hip and ankle injuries.
