Crutchlow calls for Fenati to receive life ban for pulling rival’s brake lever

Romano Fenati was handed a two-race suspension for pulling fellow Italian Stefano Manzi’s brake lever during Sunday’s MotoGP in San Marino but British star Cal Crutchlow called for a lifetime ban.

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) claimed his third win of the campaign in Rimini, but the race was overshadowed by Marinelli Rivacold Snipers’ Fenati’s moment of madness.

Crutchlow – who finished third – quickly called for the 22-year-old Fenati to face a lifetime ban as riders reacted angrily to the incident where he clearly pulled on Forward Racing Team rider Manzi’s brake.

“I think he should never race a motorcycle again,” Crutchlow told reporters of Manzi’s actions.

“He should have walked back in his garage, and his team should have just kicked him straight out the back.

“You can’t do this to another motorcycle racer. We are risking our lives enough.

“Sure, maybe there was contact before, but there’s contact all the time.

“To grab the brake lever on the straight, he deserves to just be kicked straight out.”

Dovizioso finished 2.822 seconds ahead of world champion and current overall leader Marc Marquez (Honda), while Crutchlow (Honda) was third.

Polesitter Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati) slid out on the penultimate lap after duelling with fellow Spaniard Marquez.

Dovizioso is up to second in the overall standings, with Marquez’s lead having grown to 67 points.

Valentino Rossi (Yamaha), who came seventh on Sunday, is a further three points back in third.
