Halksworth grasps Super League opportunity

The 31-year-old former UK Ironman champion has been handed a spot on the 25-man startlist for the global event, which is set to feature Olympic silver medallist Jonny Brownlee and five-time world champion Javier Noya.

Super League Jersey will include Triple Mix and Eliminator events, with the swim, bike and run legs being staged in different orders to a traditional triathlon and over much shorter distances. The two-day event forms part of a million-dollar series designed to increase the sport’s worldwide appeal, and is due to offer over $100,000 in prize money.

‘After everything I’ve done in the sport over the last ten years – to have one of the biggest events in the world coming to Jersey, I literally couldn’t turn it down,’ said Halksworth, winner of back-to-back Island Games gold medals.

‘I’ve raced most of the guys before, but not for a while, and it’s over a completely different distance. It will be very interesting, tactics will play a part and I’m hoping my Ironman fitness will help me.

‘I’m just going to go out as hard as I can and give it everything I’ve got to try and not embarrass myself.’

‘It’s going to be amazing … hopefully the home crowd can spur me on.’

The opening round, which took place earlier this year in Hamilton Island, Australia, was televised for a global audience of over 300 million.
